Yes. Please click here to reserve your tree: Reserve your tree
Can we receive more than one tree?
One tree will be given to each family. The day following the
distribution, Sunday, April 30th, any remaining trees will be available for the taking.
How big will the seedlings be?
Most of the young trees will be 1 to 3 feet. A few bigger tree
(5 to 6 feet) will be available.
What types of trees will be offered?
There will be 24 different tree species available. Many
are trees that are rare or presently absent in our neighbourhood because they
are hard to find in nurseries:
We don't have much space on our lot for a tree. What are our options?
Among the different tree species available, some will grow to a maximum
height of a few metres at maturity. These can be planted under wires, near
buildings or other trees:
Murier rouge / Red mulberry (Morus rubra)
Charme de Caroline/ American hornbean (Carpinus caroliniana)
Ostryer de Virginie / Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana)
Cornouiller à feuilles alternes / Pagoda dogwood (Cornus alternifolia)
Viorne lentago / Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago)
Prunier d'Amérique / American plum (Prunus americana)
Sorbier d'Amérique / American mountain ash (Sorbus americana)
Genévrier de Virginie / Eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
Amélanchier du Canada / Canadian serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis)
Do you have nut trees?
Caryer ovale / Shagbark hickory (Carya ovata)
Hican (Carya illinoiensis x Carya ovata)
Noyer noir / Black walnut (Juglans nigra)
Do you have trees producing edible fruits?
The trees offered are native. They were not
selected for fruit production. Some species produce fruits that birds will enjoy:
Do you have trees that make flowers?
The following trees make flowers that will benefit pollinating insects. Those with an asterisk (*) have particularly showy flowers.
Cerisier tardif / Black cherry (Prunus serotina)
Tilleul d'Amérique / Basswood (Tillia americana)
*Cornouiller à feuilles alternes / Pagoda dogwood (Cornus alternifolia)
*Viorne lentago / Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago)
*Prunier d'Amérique / American plum (Prunus americana)
*Sorbier d'Amérique / American mountain ash (Sorbus americana)
*Amélanchier du Canada / Canadian serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis)
Will there be help available to choose and to plant our tree?
Yes. The Association will have an
information booth during Earth Day (the week before the distribution) and someone will be available to answer questions. Also on
distribution day, volunteers will be on site to help you choose a
suitable tree and give you planting advice.
Will we need equipment or additional material to plant our
tree?
You will need a shovel. If you choose a bigger tree
(more than 5-6 feet), you may need some supports. Whatever tree you choose, it
could be advantageous to put a rodent guard (example “Spiral Guard”) and some
mulch.
